Choosing a standing desk for a small room

Standing desk reviews are written in big rooms. Desk № 001 is a 47-inch desk between a wall and a curtain, with a 27 lb monitor on top and two drawers underneath, and it goes up and down every day. These are the four things that decided it, in order.

1. Width is set by the room

Measure wall to curtain, subtract room for the chair to roll and for an elbow, and that is your desk. On № 001 that came to 47.2 inches, which is the compact end of what frame makers sell. A 40-inch ultrawide fits on it with the keyboard and mouse in front; a second full monitor would not. 2. The leg opening decides the storage

The number nobody publishes: the distance between the legs under the top. On a 47-inch Desky it is 33 to 35 inches, and everything that hangs under the desk has to fit in it. № 001 wanted two drawers: the Minimal at 15 inches and the Ultra Slim at 16.1 inches, which is 31.1 inches together, so both fit only if one is hard against a leg, and you still need about 3 inches of thigh room.

3. Weight and wobble

A dual-motor frame rated to 140 kg is more than a monitor needs; the rating is really about stiffness. At full standing height the Desky shows some wobble when pushed and none when typing, which is the normal result for a frame at this price. The Dell U4025QW is about 27 lb on its stock stand and has not moved. Memory presets are not a luxury: the sit and stand heights get hit several times a day and nobody holds a button for 20 seconds.

4. What the cables do when it moves

The problem every standing desk has and no listing mentions. One Thunderbolt cable from the Mac mini to the monitor carries video, hub and power on № 001, and because both minis sit on the desk under the shelf, nothing has to stretch from the floor when the desk rises except mains power. An under-desk power channel (C$109.90 on the same order) gives the power bricks somewhere to live that travels with the top. Three outlets turned out to be tight for this many devices; count yours.

The add-ons that came with it

The October 2025 Desky order was the desk plus a Minimal drawer (C$169), the cable and power channel (C$109.90), a foot rest (C$44.90), an anti-fatigue mat (C$74.90) and the boom arm (C$54.90). The mat and the foot rest are what make standing last longer than ten minutes; the arm turned out to be the best C$55 on the desk for calls.

Do you actually stand?

The honest check before spending C$700 instead of C$250 on a fixed desk. The desk on № 001 goes up for calls and for the afternoon, which is enough to justify it. If you have never stood at a counter to work for an hour by choice, buy the fixed desk and a better chair.
